ABOUT SARAH

I’m Sarah Kambouris, a Hudson Valley artist based in Accord, New York, creating original paintings and drawings that explore emotion, beauty, contrast, and the details found in everyday life.

Creativity has always been part of who I am. I was born and raised in New York’s Hudson Valley in a family of makers, builders, and entrepreneurs. My father immigrated to New York from the Greek island of Kalymnos and built a career as a craftsman, eventually establishing our family’s custom furniture business in the Hudson Valley. Growing up surrounded by woodworking, furniture making, design, and hands-on craftsmanship gave me an appreciation for creating something meaningful from a simple beginning.

That same idea is at the heart of my artwork.

My Art

My work moves between realism and more expressive, contemporary pieces. I create original artwork using mediums including acrylic, watercolor, graphite, and charcoal, allowing the subject and emotion behind each piece to determine the direction it takes.

I’m especially drawn to light, shadow, texture, human expression, nature, and ordinary subjects that become extraordinary when you stop long enough to really see them.

For me, art is also deeply personal. Creating has always been a way to process emotion and translate experiences that aren't always easy to put into words. Some pieces begin with a clear vision, while others develop intuitively as I work. That freedom is one of the things I love most about being an artist.

From Furniture & Design

to Fine Art

My creative background extends beyond the canvas. I studied Business Management along with Graphic Design and Marketing, but it was during my college art courses that I truly recognized my connection to fine art.

A drawing class changed the way I looked at a blank page. Instead of seeing emptiness, I saw possibility.

That perspective has stayed with me ever since.

For more than two decades, I have also owned and operated Bare Furniture in Accord, New York, where I work with color, stains, finishes, furniture, and interior design every day. Years of working with my hands and helping clients choose finishes for their homes have naturally influenced my understanding of color, composition, texture, and how artwork can transform a space.

Today, I continue creating from the Hudson Valley, drawing inspiration from life, emotion, nature, my Greek heritage, and the world around me.

My goal isn't simply to create something beautiful.
